The Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations of America, the nation’s largest Orthodox Jewish umbrella organization, applauded the unanimous approval by the U.S. House Committee on Foreign Affairs of H. Res. 293, a bipartisan resolution that expresses “strong condemnation” of anti-Israel and anti-Semitic incitement within the Palestinian Authority.

Sponsored by Representatives Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL) and Ted Deutch (D-FL), the resolution also urges President Abbas and Palestinian Authority officials to “discontinue all official incitement” and directs the U.S. Department of State to monitor the Palestinian Authority for “official incitement against Jews and the State of Israel.”

“This resolution is a strong statement of support for Israel and her citizens who are enduring this ongoing wave of violence and terrorism against innocent Jews going about their daily routines. President Abbas encourages this terrorism to continue by allowing Palestinian Authority officials to spread blatant lies about Israel’s holiest sites and call for the killing of Israelis and Jews,” said Nathan Diament, Executive Director for Public Policy for the Orthodox Union. “We applaud Representatives Ros-Lehtinen and Deutch for sponsoring the resolution and the entire House Foreign Affairs Committee for its unanimous approval. We urge all Members of Congress to support the resolution when it comes to the floor of the House.”
