Today, the Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations of America, the nation’s largest Orthodox Jewish umbrella organization, applauded President Obama and key congressional leaders – Senators Boxer and Isakson, and House Majority Leader Cantor, Democratic Leader Hoyer, and House Foreign Affairs Chair Ros-Lehtinen and Ranking Member Berman – for working to enhance the United States’ and Israel’s security cooperation.  The following statement was issued as President Obama signed the US Israel Enhanced Security Cooperation Act into law this morning at a White House ceremony:

Nathan Diament, Executive Director for Public Policy of the Orthodox Union, stated:

The United States and Israel enjoy a security alliance that is crucial for regional and global stability.  The US-Israel Enhanced Security Cooperation Act bolsters these efforts further by extending loan guarantees set to expire at the end of this year, authorizing American military stockpiles in Israel, and improving military and intelligence cooperation, particularly in missile defense.

The Orthodox Union commends Senators Boxer and Isakson and House Majority Leader Cantor, Democratic Leader Hoyer, House Foreign Affairs Chair Ros-Lehtinen, and House Foreign Affairs Ranking Member Berman for leading the legislative effort in Congress, and President Barack Obama for his support and signing the Act into law today.
