Congregation Shearith Israel, an OU member synagogue, was recently visited by the President of Ireland, Mary McAleese. The President visited to thank the synagogue for its efforts in helping Irish potato famine victims over 160 years ago.

Along with Temple Shaaray Tefila, Congregation Shearith Israel helped raise over $1,000 back in 1847. NYC Council Speaker Christine Quinn helped connect the synagogue with President McAleese.
