ORTHODOX UNION SADDENED ON NEWS OF TOM LANTOS PASSING

The Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations of America, the nation’s largest Orthodox Jewish umbrella organization, expressed its deep sadness over news of the death of Congressman Tom Lantos (D-CA)

Tom Lantos, the Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, was the only Holocaust survivor ever to serve in Congress, and was expected to retire at the end of the end of this term due to his battle with cancer.

UOJCA Director of Public Policy Nathan Diament stated:

“We mourn the loss of Congressman Lantos. He was a proud supporter of Israel and a proud Jew. His presence will be sorely missed.”
