Today, the Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations of America (UOJCA), the nation’s largest Orthodox Jewish umbrella organization, commended President Bush and the Congress for enacting the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007, which was signed into law earlier today. Among its provisions, the EISA raises fuel-efficiency standards for automobiles.

Nathan Diament, Director of Policy at the UOJCA stated:

The Orthodox Union believes energy security and independence are necessary for our national security as well as the protection of our environment. We commend Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and the other leaders of Congress for their hard work and leadership on this legislation and we commend President Bush for signing it into law.
