UNION OF ORTHODOX JEWISH CONGREGATIONS OF AMERICA CONGRATULATES JUDGE MUKASEY ON SENATE CONFIRMATION AS ATTORNEY GENERAL OF THE UNITED STATES

Today, in the wake of a vote by the U.S. Senate confirming Judge Michael Mukasey as Attorney General of the United States, the Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations of America issued the following statement:

The Orthodox Jewish community congratulates “one of our own” – Judge Michael Mukasey upon his confirmation by the U.S. Senate to be Attorney General of the United States. (Judge Mukasey is the second Jewish American, and the first from the Orthodox segment of the community, to serve as Attorney General.)

We are proud that Judge Mukasey has stepped forward once again to serve the people of the United States in a critical role at a critical time. We wish him the blessings of wisdom, strength and courage as he leads the Department of Justice in its work to protect Americans from harm, promote civil rights and combat crime and corruption.

We commend President George W. Bush for nominating a person with such a distinguished record of service and commend those United States Senators who voted to confirm Judge Mukasey to the post.
