Today, the Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations of America, through its Institute for Public Affairs, applauded Vice President Al Gore, and the Internet industry, on the recent announcement introducing the Parents’ Protection Page.

Through cooperation between the Internet industry, Congressional leaders and public citizens’ groups, the vice president announced the creation of the Parents’ Protection Page. This page will automatically appear on virtually all Internet starting points beginning this summer. This page will enable parents to block inappropriate content, set time limits on their children’s Internet use and restrict e-mail contacts in order to avoid web sites that they feel are inappropriate for their children.

In short, this new development will be an important tool to help parents to quickly and easily take control of their home computers in order to protect their children.

IPA director Nathan Diament stated that “the Orthodox Union commends all those involved in the creation of the Parents’ Protection Page and urges continued efforts to protect our children from inappropriate material on the Internet, in video games and in our nation’s media.”

The Orthodox Union, the nation’s largest Orthodox Jewish umbrella organization, has been actively involved in initiatives to assist parents in guiding their children’s media message exposure and is home of one of the most active Jewish-content internet sites at www.ou.org.
