In the wake of the elections, Senate Democrats will discuss Senator Joe Lieberman’s backing of John McCain’s candidacy and what “punishment”, if any, will be visited upon him for his political heresy.

The left-wing netroots are agitating for Lieberman to be ousted from his chairmanship of the Senate Homeland Security Committee, if not the Democratic Caucus altogether, with one site offering a “whip count.”

Interestingly, President-Elect Obama has indicated he’s moved on (pardon the pun) and does not support such revenge.

We believe that the President-Elect has set the correct tone and believe the ouster of the Senate’s only Orthodox Jew (not to mention former-vice-presidential nominee and, 95% of the time loyal Democrat) would send an inappropriate message of hostility and partisanship at a time when the country needs unity of purpose and action tackling critical issues.
