Written “Guarantees” Not Enough to Assure U.S. Security; Just Say “No” to Selling Arms to the Saudis

U.S. Representatives Mark Kirk (R-IL) and Chris Carney (D-PA) are circulating an AIPAC backed sign-on letter to President Bush on the topic of the proposed sale of millions of dollars of sophisticated U.S. weaponry to Saudi Arabia. We appreciate their efforts, but to us it seems that the concerns they raise are excellent arguments against allowing this weapons sale to go through altogether: does anyone believe that written “guarantees” and “reporting” are sufficient to prevent such weapons from falling into the hands of enemies of the United States and Israel?

This is one of the many reasons the OU has called upon Congress to block the sale and commend the many Members of Congress who’ve said they would vote to block it.
