Orthodox Union Facilitates Meeting in Montgomery County
Delegate Jeff D. Waldstreicher (D) of Maryland’s House of Representatives recently visited the Torah School of Greater Washington in Silver Spring. The visit, which included a tour of the campus, addresses to classrooms of students and a meeting with the school’s professional leadership, was facilitated by the Orthodox Union (Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations of America) the nation’s largest Orthodox Jewish umbrella organization.
Rabbi Yitzchak Charner, Headmaster of the Torah School of Greater Washington stated:
“We are greatly appreciative of Mr. Waldstreicher taking time from his busy schedule to visit the Torah School of Greater Washington and his desire to help us. Also, we thank Maury Litwack and Howie Beigelman of the Orthodox Union for their facilitating the visit.”
Delegate Waldstreicher spent a majority of his visit going around to individual classrooms introducing himself, asking and answering student questions and discussing the importance of solving problems. Following his address to the students, Delegate Waldstreicher met with the Torah School professional leadership to dialogue regarding legislative needs. Waldstreicher recognized that many Orthodox Jewish families are struggling financially to pay for Jewish day school and committed to continue to work with the Orthodox Union and local leaders to address the problem.
Following the meeting Delegate Waldstreicher stated:
“I had a wonderful time touring the Torah School of Greater Washington. Under the leadership of Rabbi Charner and Zev Teichman, the school clearly provides a solid, values-based education to members of the community. I’m proud to have the Torah School in my legislative district.”
Maury Litwack, Deputy Director of Public Policy for the Orthodox Union affirmed:
“Delegate Waldstreicher is a friend to our community and we appreciate his continued leadership on issues important to the Orthodox community.”
