ORTHODOX UNION CONDEMNS ATTACKS BY ISRAELIS ON IDF BASE & SOLDIERS;
“THERE IS NO JUSTIFICATION FOR SUCH HEINOUS ACTS”

Today, the Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations of America, condemned a reported attack by scores of Israeli youths on an Israel Defense Forces base in Samaria, Israel in which army vehicles were damaged and Israeli soldiers were injured.  The following statement was issued by the leadership of the “Orthodox Union”:

The leadership of the Orthodox Union condemns the actions of Jewish criminals who perpetrated an attack upon Israeli Defense Force soldiers and property.  There is no justification for such heinous acts.  Such actions undermine the security of Israel and the unity of Israeli society which itself is essential to that security.

We commend Prime Minister Netanyahu for taking decisive action to thwart these criminal activities and to bring the perpetrators to justice.  We call upon leaders of all segments of Israel and the Jewish community to conduct debates over policy through the political process and in a civil manner befitting Jewish values.

In issuing this statement, the Orthodox Union joined leaders across the spectrum of Israeli leadership who have also condemned the attack including Defense Minister Barak, IDF Chief of Staff Benny Gantz, MKs Danny Danon and Yakov Katz, and Yesha leaders Danny Dayan and Pinchas Wallerstein.
