UNION OF ORTHODOX JEWISH CONGREGATIONS APPLAUDS HOUSE PASSAGE OF BIPARTISAN JERUSALEM RESOLUTION

Today, the Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations of America applauds the House passage of the bipartisan resolution “relating to the 40th anniversary of the reunification of the City of Jerusalem,” introduced by Rep. Tom Lantos, Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, and Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, Ranking Member on the Committee.

The House Concurrent Resolution, H.CON.RES.152, “congratulates the citizens of Israel on the 40th anniversary of the Six Day War in which Israel defeated enemies aiming to destroy the Jewish State,” and congratulates “the people of Israel on the 40th anniversary of the reunification of that historic city,” and “commends Israel for its administration of the undivided city of Jerusalem for the past 40 years, during which Israel has respected the rights of all religious groups.” The resolution also calls for the relocation of the US Embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

Nathan J. Diament, director of the Union’s Institute for Public Policy stated:

This resolution is a welcome celebration of this important milestone, and a strong affirmation of America’s support for Israel with an undivided Jerusalem as its capital. We thank Reps. Lantos and Ros-Lehtinen, along with the other co-sponsors, for their leadership on this issue. We strongly encourage the Senate to take up and pass a similar resolution introduced by Senator Sam Brownback.
