FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ORTHODOX UNION CONDEMNS INDIVIDUALS REPRESENTING THEMSELVES AS CHAREDI JEWS FOR MEETING WITH PRESIDENT AHMADINEJAD OF IRAN

The following statement was issued this morning on behalf of the Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations of America – the nation’s largest Orthodox Jewish umbrella organization – by the Union’s president, Stephen Savitsky and Executive Vice President, Rabbi Tzvi Hersh Weinreb:

The Orthodox Union condemns the actions of the individuals representing themselves as charedi (fervently Orthodox) Jews who are meeting today with President Ahmadinejad of Iran.

These are the same individuals who had the audacity to attend Mr. Ahmadinejad’s conference held last winter denying the truth of the Holocaust. They meet with this dangerous despot today, only hours after Mr. Ahmadinejad again questioned the historical accuracy of the Holocaust as well as the right of Israel to exist in his remarks at Columbia University.

We hope by now the world understands that these individuals represent no one but themselves, have no constituency, have no following in the Jewish community and are a disgrace to the values and history of the Jewish People.
