Dear Recipient's Title and Name:
I am writing to express my concern that the Build Back Better Act, as currently written, unfairly excludes faith-based providers, including synagogues and Jewish day schools, from fully participating in the expanded childcare and pre-K programs. The legislation departs from the previous approach to existing federal childcare programs by attaching new and troubling compliance obligations that will, effectively, prevent religious entities from participating as providers.
The pending bill will prohibit religious providers from including religious content in their program (so – no singing of holiday songs this month) and prohibiting the operation of “boys- only” or “girls-only” programs.
Eliminating faith-based providers is discriminatory and counterproductive. More than 50% of American families place their children in faith-based childcare. I urge you to support revisions to the text of the bill that are consistent with current federal laws that protect and accommodate religious freedom. The newly expanded childcare and universal pre-K programs should serve all Americans.
Sincerely,
