Dear Recipient's Title and Name:
I respectfully urge you to support the Energy Modernization Act of 2015, which includes the bipartisan Nonprofit Energy Efficiency Act, creating a federal matching grants program that will help non-profit organizations make the buildings they own and operate more energy efficient.
According to the U.S. EPA, nonresidential buildings across the country consume more than $200 billion annually in energy costs. Among nonprofits in the United States, there are approximately 370,000 houses of worship and, according to the EPA, they collectively spend more than $3 billion dollars in annual energy costs. Yet as tax exempt organizations, nonprofits remain unable to take advantage of any energy efficiency tax incentives and are often unable to surmount the "front end" investment cost of efficiency retrofits.
The Nonprofit Energy Efficiency Act, originally introduced in the Senate by U.S. Senators Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) and John Hoeven (R-ND), will address this problem by helping our nation's nonprofit organizations--including youth centers, houses of worship, hospitals and museums--cut their energy costs by one-third and thus have nearly $1 billion to spend on programs and services. And by making their buildings more energy efficient, these nonprofits will create a ripple effect by inspiring and influencing their members and beneficiaries to do the same in their homes and businesses. Moreover, this federal grants program will spur job creation for those who manufacture and install new HVAC systems, windows and other energy efficiency improvements.
I hope you will support the Energy Modernization Act of 2015 and help nonprofit organizations across the country reduce their operating costs, decrease their impact on the environment and bolster our energy independence.
Sincerely,
