Dear Recipient's Title and Name:
I am writing to urge you to sign the bipartisan letter, led by Senators Blunt and Gillibrand to Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary John F. Kelly, calling for the DHS to fully fund the Nonprofit Security Grant Program (NSGP) at $50 million for Fiscal Year 2018.
As the Blunt-Gillibrand letter outlines, in the first two months of 2017 alone, over 100 threats against Jewish organizations throughout the United States have been reported. As these threats continue, Jewish community centers, day schools, synagogues, and other institutions must implement additional security measures to protect their communities. The NSGP is one tool that allows these and other at-risk cultural and religious institutions to protect themselves--by installing additional safety measures such as fences, security cameras, lighting, metal detectors, and blast-resistant doors--against threats to their security.
The Orthodox Union Advocacy Center, along with Jewish Federations of North America and other coalition partners, spearheaded the creation of the NSGP in 2005 and work each year to appropriate the funds for the program. Since that time, hundreds of synagogues, mosques, and other religious and nonprofit organizations have used the grant to make their institutions more secure. The need to protect these institutions is greater than ever. Fully funding the NSGP at $50 million is a crucial step toward that protection.
Thank you for your support of Jewish communities and again, please contact Senator Gillibrand's office to add your name to this important letter.
Sincerely,
Your Full Name
