Today, the Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations of America, the nation’s largest Orthodox Jewish umbrella organization, welcomed U.S. support for Israel’s security through President Donald Trump’s declaration that the Jewish state should have sovereignty over the Golan Heights.

The Orthodox Union has long supported the government of Israel’s assessment of Israel’s security needs.

The Orthodox Union’s leadership welcomes President Trump’s announcement this week recognizing Israel’s sovereignty over the Golan Heights in response to the request of Israeli leaders. The Orthodox Union’s leadership appreciates that this position has been supported by bipartisan leaders in the U.S. Congress.

Orthodox Union President Mark (Moishe) Bane stated:
“Israeli control of the Golan Heights has kept thousands of Israelis safe. We commend President Trump for his historic decision in support of Israel’s security.”

Orthodox Union Executive Vice President Allen Fagin stated:
“Statements by U.S. Sens. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) and U.S. Reps. Eliot Engel (D-N.Y.) and Jerry Nadler (D-N.Y.) recognizing the importance of maintaining Israeli control of the Golan Heights are also greatly appreciated and important for Israel’s ongoing security.”
