Walking the Walk On Schools

Posted on January 13, 2010 In Blog

The nation’s two newest governors – Bob McDonnell of the Old Dominion and Chris Christie of the Garden State – have spoken before of their support for all children and all schools, including those in faith based schools. Mr. Christie went so far as to refuse to meet with the NJEA and to compete for their endorsement.

And in the last 24 hours, they’ve matched their walk to their talk on this, with each appointing firebreathing, no-holds-barred champions of education reform, school choice and equity for private schools as their education commissioners.

Gerard Robinson, of BAEO is the new Virginia education guru, and former Jersey City mayor and gubernatorial candidate Bret Schundler, who showcased his political dragonslaying skills in his 2001 come-from-way-behind primary victory, takes over the NJ DoE.

We expect fireworks, but we also expect new policies and a new way of doing business. This can only be good news for Jewish day schools.
