On Thursday, February 22, 2007, the Maryland General Assembly held two hearings, in the House of Delegates Judiciary Committee and the Senate Committee on Judicial Proceedings, regarding proposed legislation to help prevent women from becoming an agunah, or chained.
Deputy Director of Public Policy, Howie Beigelman joined a panel offering oral testimony on the legislation with constiutional law scholar Nathan Lewin, Rabbi Moshe Hauer of Baltimore’s Bnai Jacob Shaarei Zion (a UOJCA member synagogue) and Agudath Israel’s Rabbi Abba Cohen.
