School Choice – of ballots, politics & real children

The big news on the school choice front was President Bush’s Pell Grants for Kids proposal made last night in his final State of the Union. But as the NY Sun reports today it isn’t the only news. NYSUT, the state’s powerful, and unforgiving teachers’ union, withheld an endorsement from a supporter of education tax credits in what is shaping up to be the pivotal State Senate race of the year. More to the point though, is a guest editorial in Rochester’s Democrat & Chronicle that tells the story of struggling parents and the need for help from the state on educating their children.
