Dear Recipient's Title and Name:
I am writing to urge you to reinstate the $10 million security funding for nonpublic schools in California’s fiscal year 2018 budget.
Over the past couple of months, we have witnessed a disturbing increase in hate crimes and other anti-religious incidents across the country. From bomb threats to vandalism, religious communities have a bullseye on their backs, and nonpublic schools need the tools and resources to protect our children in this environment.
Every child deserves to go to school in a safe environment, regardless of income, religion, and school type. Members of all faiths and all different walks of life have joined together in support of the security funding. We believe in a fundamental principal: Protecting our children is government’s most basic responsibility.
The initial legislation, AB 927, passed out of committee with bipartisan support. At the same time, legislatures in New York, Florida, and Maryland have already passed security funding for nonpublic schools this year, and other states are considering similar legislation. I urge you to make sure California is a leader in protecting our children.
Please reinstate the $10 million security funding in the fiscal year 2018 budget.
Thank you in advance for your attention to this critical issue.
Sincerely,
Your Full Name
