Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations Congratulates President Obama and Congressional Leaders on Enactment of Economic Recovery Program

Today, as President Barack Obama signed into law the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, the Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations of America congratulated the President and congressional leaders on the accomplishment.

Orthodox Union director of public policy Nathan Diament issued the following statement:

The Orthodox Union congratulates President Obama and congressional leaders upon the enactment of the economic stimulus bill; like all Americans, we hope and pray it will indeed spark an American economic recovery and bring relief and new opportunities to millions of Americans.

Of particular interest to the Orthodox Jewish community, we appreciate the legislation’s allocation of millions of dollars to fund educational services under the Elementary & Secondary Education Act and Individuals with Disabilities Education Act which serve students in need and/or with learning disabilities in our communities and schools. We do note our continuing disappointment that nonpublic schools were excluded from the legislation’s “green schools” modernization program.
