Is It 1938 All Over Again??

With a title stemming from November remarks by Benjamin Netanyahu to the United Jewish Communities General Assembly, where he said “it’s 1938 and Iran is Germany. And Iran is racing to arm itself with atomic bombs,” Queens College is hosting a two day conference examining current events, and asking if it is in fact 1938 all over again?

Former Clinton administration Undersecretary of State Stuart Eizenstat, in an article appearing in last week’s Forward argues not, saying: “to act on the proposition that the threats today are equivalent to those in 1938 would lead to inappropriate and counterproductive policy responses.”

But at yesterday’s opening session at Queens, the short answer,
actually, seemed to be yes, according to Malcolm Hoenlein, Executive
Vice-Chairman of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish, who said we will be called to account on whether we take
on Iran or not- while Leonard Fein, a Forward columnist, felt otherwise.
