Major Jewish organizations across the United States expressed concern about two key provisions contained in President Barack Obama’s 2016 Federal Budget proposal, as presented on Monday.

The Jewish Federations of North America and the Orthodox Union voiced concern over the limitation of the charitable tax deduction and funding cuts to important security and emergency programs, so vital for the growing Jewish communities in the United States.

William Daroff, senior vice president for public policy and director of the Washington Office of JFNA, expressed the need for the Administration to protect the value of the charitable tax deduction rather than attempting to limit it. “As many in Congress agree, the deduction is a ‘lifeline and not a loophole,’” Daroff said in a statement. “It provides charities such as Federations with needed funds to care for the most vulnerable among us.”
