ORTHODOX JEWISH COMMUNITY COMMENDS PRESIDENT BUSH’S PELL GRANTS FOR KIDS PROPOSAL

“a fitting legacy for the education president”

Today, the Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations of America, the nation’s largest Orthodox Jewish umbrella organization. praised the “Pell Grants for Kids” proposal unveiled in President Bush’s State of the Union address.

Nathan J. Diament, Director of Public Policy stated:

“This is a landmark proposal from a president who has always put education and faith as two pillars of his agenda. Helping poor children to receive a first rate education from the best and most appropriate school is a fitting legacy for the education president.”

The proposal would provide federal grants to children in persistently failing public schools to attend a private school, whether secular or parochial, of their choice.
