About that Faith Based Initiative….

Jim Towey, former director of the White House Office of Faith-Based & Community Initiatives, which the OU has supported since its inception, puts key questions to candidates Obama and McCain about what they might do with regard to this critical effort when one of them becomes president.

Among the key questions not yet answered by the candidates’ very general statements to date:
· Will you keep open the 11 faith-based offices that President Bush established in government, including the one in the White House?
· Will you rescind President Bush’s executive order mandating equal treatment of faith-based organizations by the federal government?
· Do you support the right of faith-based charities to hire on a religious basis without forfeiting federal funds?
