Amicus Curiae Brief: Freedom From Religion Foundation v. Lew

Posted on April 11, 2014 In Blog

The Orthodox Union joined with other leading Orthodox Jewish organizations to defend the constitutionality of the federal tax code’s “parsonage” allowance for clergy in federal court. OU Advocacy joined an amicus brief drafted by the noted attorney Nathan Lewin.

The parsonage allowance is a critical element in the budgeting and finances of many religious entities including synagogues and day schools. More information about the case is available here.

OU Advocacy notes and appreciates that the Obama Administration is defending the parsonage provision as well. The brief of the Justice Department is available here.
