Caroline Kennedy Supports Jerusalem Unity

Caroline Kennedy has declared her interest in succeeding Hillary Clinton as a U.S. Senator from New York. She’s thus been setting forth her views on a range of issues important to New Yorkers – including her views regarding Israel. Over the weekend, the NY Times reported that Ms. Kennedy “expressed strong support for Israel and said an undivided Jerusalem must be the country’s national capital.”

The Orthodox Union welcomes this statement by Ms. Kennedy. At a time when there are those who question whether Jerusalem can or should remain a united and secure city, the statement by someone of Caroline Kennedy’s prominence and thoughtfulness is encouraging.

We also look forward to discussing issues of critical importance to New York’s Orthodox community with Ms. Kennedy in greater detail. In 1999, Hillary Clinton famously met with the leadership of the OU when she sought to succeed Senator Daniel Moynihan. We have extended a similar invitation to Ms. Kennedy and hope she will avail herself of the opportunity.
