After pressure from Orthodox Jewish groups, Mayor de Blasio announced changes Wednesday to accommodate parochial schools that want to maximize religious instruction in their prekindergartens.

Under the new rules, schools must still provide at least 31 hours and 40 minutes of standardized instruction a week, but the time can now be spread out over six days instead of five.

In addition, de Blasio will allow publicly funded preschools to teach on federal holidays to make up for time off during holy days.
