OU Deputy Director of Public Policy, Howie Beigelman, took issue with a New York Daily News headline regarding Speaker Sheldon Silver, an Orthodox Jew. Howie’s letter to the editor, which was in the print yesterday, April 6th, can be found below.
Missing the mark
Manhattan: The headline “Silver goes on vacation as state goes kerflooey” (April 2) was too cute by half. There is no religious test for public office and the Daily News ought not be making one. Politics and policy are fair game. Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver’s religious observance is not.
