The EU is planning what has been called in other quarters, an “anti-Israel” bash. The Israeli government has begun a pushback, and so far the Polish delegation to the European Parliament has refused to take part. American Jewish groups working in the arena – AJC and B’nai B’rith have both commended the move. We wonder if there is a place here for more general American public opinion – perhaps Congress, on its own or through the Helsinki commission should be making its voice heard? Remember how the Jackson-Vanick amendments made sure that at the height of the struggle for Soviet Jewry the issue of their freedom was always on the agenda?
