From the Peres Conference; Don’t Stop Thinking About the Past

The OU/IPA is attending the jamboree being thrown for Israel’s 60th by President Shimon Peres. Dubbed “Facing Tomorrow” – the festivities kicked off last night.
We found it jarring for President Peres, standing in Jerusalem, to essentially call upon those assembled and the Jewish People to forget the past and only look toward the future. That’s a rather, well, un-Jewish view.
Fortunately, the Mayor of Jerusalem and Elie Wiesel followed up with powerful addresses that more appropriately called upon us to value the past as we shape the Jewish future.
