The letter from the Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations of America’s Nathan Diament and other nonprofit leaders expresses appreciation to the House Ways and Means Committee for considering the Economic Mobility Act of 2019, H.R. 3300, which includes the repeal of section 512(a)(7) of the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. The provision in the new tax code places a levy on parking, transportation and other fringe benefits provided to employees of nonprofits and for the first time entangles houses of worship with the IRS.
