The Orthodox Union has submitted a memorandum of opposition to bills in the New York State Legislature that would cut the percentage by which higher-income donors can claim charitable donations as tax deductions. The OU has joined with other nonprofit organizations in the call to oppose this legislation.
Cutting off a source of revenue for nonprofits means that not only are nonprofits being asked to do more with less, but places a burden on those who can ill afford it – those who are serviced by nonprofits.
The OU has fought successfully on similar proposals at the federal level.
