Obama Urged to Talk to Hamas

The Boston Globe reports that ten prominent Americans with entree to policy circles, led by Henry Siegman, Zbig Brzezinski and Brent Scowcroft, are urging the Obama Administration to open talks with Hamas.

Marty Peretz, correctly in our view, characterizes this crowd as “obsessive” about Israel and the conflict with the Palestinians.

Peretz goes on to say:

“I am convinced that what they want is to punish Israel for daring to reject their perilous counsel. The rancor of the signatories is mostly personal, as with Chas Freeman. After all, Jews were supposed to cower before the mighty. They cower no more. This is one historic meaning of Jewish sovereignty.”
