Olmert Reaches Out

We were pleased to read this morning that Prime Minister Ehud Olmert met with leaders of the Israeli settler community. As the report indicates, such a meeting and the opening of lines of communication between the government and a core component of Israeli society is long overdue and essential. It is also essential that this indeed be a dialog – with both parties not only speaking to each other, but listening to each other. We also think, and have publicly advocated, that the Prime Minister must dialog with the Orthodox/religious Zionist community in the United States as well. Mr. Olmert has done so in the past, and it must continue as new and challenging initiatives are undertaken.
