Orthodox Union Advocacy Welcomes Additional $30 Million in NSGP Funding in House Markup, Urges Continued Action

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Nathan Diament, Executive Director of the Orthodox Union Advocacy Center, welcomed a $30 million increase to the proposed FY’26 funding level of the Nonprofit Security Grant Program (NSGP). At its mark up session yesterday, the House Appropriations Committee voted to increase the proposed allocation for NSGP from $305 million to $335 million.
NSGP grants are provided to synagogues and other faith community entities to support their security. NSGP grants have been crucial for the Jewish community at a time of surging antisemitism.

“This funding boost over the Subcommittee’s initial proposal is a very welcome and good start. We appreciate the Appropriations Committee’s bipartisan effort to increase funding for the NSGP at such a critical time. With threats against the Jewish community surging, every additional dollar makes a difference in protecting lives.

“That said, the need far exceeds current funding levels, and we will continue to work with allies in Congress toward the $500 million funding target. That level of funding is what our community needs, and it is supported by a strong bipartisan coalition.

“We thank DHS Appropriations Subcommittee Chair Rep. Mark Amodei (R-NV) for his commitment to the safety of all faith communities and his leadership in passing this amendment. We also thank Reps. Juan Ciscomani (R-AZ), Celeste Maloy (R-UT), Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL), Grace Meng (D-NY), and Steny Hoyer (D-MD) for their partnership in this effort.”

The Orthodox Union Advocacy Center continues to call for robust, sustained investment in securing vulnerable religious communities across the country.
