Washington, D.C. — The Orthodox Union Advocacy Center (OUA) applauds the reintroduction of the Antisemitism Awareness Act (AAA) in the House of Representatives, a crucial piece of legislation aimed at combating the rise of antisemitism across the United States. The bill was introduced by Representatives Mike Lawler (R-NY) and Josh Gottheimer (D-NJ) and ensures that federal agencies utilize the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) definition of antisemitism when enforcing civil rights laws.

Nathan Diament, Executive Director of OU Advocacy, will join lawmakers and community leaders at a press conference today marking the bill’s reintroduction.

“At a time of unchecked antisemitism, it is critical that Congress act to protect the American Jewish community — and passing the Antisemitism Awareness Act is a very important step in doing so,” said Nathan Diament, executive director of OU Advocacy. “We are deeply grateful to Representatives Mike Lawler and Josh Gottheimer for their leadership in advancing this crucial legislation. We urge Congress to act swiftly, pass this bill, and send it to President Trump for his signature.”

The Antisemitism Awareness Act ensures that the Department of Education and other federal agencies utilize the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance’s (IHRA) working definition of antisemitism when enforcing Title VI of the Civil Rights Act and other key laws. This definition includes contemporary expressions of antisemitism, such as hostility toward Jews disguised as anti-Zionism or rhetoric targeting the State of Israel.

OUA has been unwavering in its advocacy for this legislation, driving efforts on Capitol Hill and rallying public support across Jewish communities. The organization continues to urge lawmakers to take decisive action against antisemitism and remains dedicated to collaborating with leaders from both parties to ensure the safety and well-being of Jewish communities.
