Today, the Orthodox Union, the nation’s largest Orthodox Jewish umbrella organization, commended the bipartisan group of 26 Senators who have introduced legislation calling for tougher sanctions on Iran, in an effort to curb and eliminate the regime’s nuclear capabilities.

Nathan Diament, the Orthodox Union’s executive director for public policy stated:

“The Orthodox Union appreciates the Iran sanctions legislation introduced yesterday in the U.S. senate. We especially commend Senators Charles Schumer (D-NY), Mark Kirk (R-IL) and Robert Menendez (D-NJ) for co-sponsoring this bill and leading the Senate in this effort against Iran and its nuclear program.

Over the past several years, we have supported efforts by Congress and the White House Administration to legislate and enact sanctions to curtail and ultimately disband Iran’s nuclear program.  These tough tactics have pressed Iran into negotiations, and now is not the time to relent.

We urge Senate Majority Leader Reid to bring this legislation swiftly to the Senate floor and we urge all Senators to support it.”
