Hours after expressing its “deep disappointment” with the Democratic Party’s adoption of text in its platform which omitted recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, the leadership of the Orthodox Union commended the Democrats convened in Charlotte, NC for adopting a revised text on this important issue.  This afternoon, delegates adopted a revised text which states:

“Jerusalem is and will remain the capital of Israel. The parties have agreed that Jerusalem is a matter for final status negotiations. It should remain an undivided city accessible to people of all faiths.”

The leadership of the Orthodox Union stated:

We welcome and commend Democratic Party leaders for revising their platform to reflect key facts and principles: Jerusalem is the capital of Israel, and it must remain undivided so that – as has been the case only under Israeli sovereignty – people of all faiths have access to all holy sites.
