ORTHODOX UNION MEETS WITH CONGRESSMAN-ELECT PAUL TONKO
Orthodox Union facilitates key meeting in the Capitol District

Congressman-elect Paul Tonko (D-NY-21) met with representatives of the Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations of America (the “Orthodox Union”), the nation’s largest Orthodox Jewish umbrella organization, and local OU synagogue rabbis and community leaders. The meeting was hosted by Judge Bruce S. Trachtenberg, at his home in Niskayuna, New York on Monday, December 8, 2008.

Congressman-elect Tonko heard from these leaders their concerns regarding key issues, including Jewish day school funding, the security of Israel, energy conservation and production, civil rights and religious freedom, and in the wake of the Mumbai attacks, the need to protect vulnerable targets and communities from terrorism.

Congressman-elect Tonko fills the seat of retiring ten term Congressman Michael McNulty, who chose not to run for re-election after twenty years of service in Congress.
