Washington, D.C. — The Orthodox Union Advocacy Center (the public policy arm of the Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations of America) sent two letters to the House Committee on Education and Workforce endorsing the Student Protection and University Accountability Act (SPUA) and the No Antisemitism in Education Act of 2026 set to be marked up today in committee. Both bills address universities’ failure to properly investigate and prosecute antisemitism under Title VI of the Civil Rights Act. Read the letters here.
OU Advocacy worked closely with Reps. Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.) and Laura Gillen (D-N.Y.) in drafting the SPUA. The bill requires universities to establish a Title VI coordinator and establish clear processes for investigating violations or risk losing federal funds.
The No Antisemitism in Education Act of 2026, sponsored by Rep. Randy Fine (R-Fla), also prioritizes accountability by requiring educational institutions to treat antisemitic hostility as seriously as other Title VI infringements.
“Title VI isn’t worth the paper it’s written on if antisemitic complaints are swept under the rug,” said Nathan Diament, OU Advocacy’s Executive Director. “These bills establish real consequences for refusing to protect Jewish civil rights on campus. We commend Reps. Stefanik, Gillen, and Fine for their leadership on these bipartisan bills and urge the committee to pass them.”
