This blog has already reported on the campaign of some Israeli rabbis to disseminate the view that Jews may not rent or sell real property in Israel to non-Jews.

We noted the rejection of this campaign by Charedi rabbinic leaders – including Rav Elyashiv and Rav Steinman.

Today we call your attention to the response penned by Rav Aharon Lichtenstein – pre-eminent leader in the Religious Zionist camp.

His essay has impressed a non-Orthodox author as written with “elegance and erudition.”

We, who have been blessed to know and learn from Rav Aharon for so many years are, of course, not surprised by those characteristics and his forceful stand on this matter.
