On behalf of the Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations of America—the nation’s largest Orthodox Jewish umbrella organization—I am writing to express my support for the UNRWA Accountability and Transparency Act and ask you to sign onto this bill to stop US tax dollars from supporting UNRWA, which uses anti-American, anti-Israel, and antisemitic propaganda in their textbooks.
It is well documented that UNRWA textbooks include horrific propaganda and violent images depicting Jews. UNRWA should be teaching Palestinian children that peace and kindness are critical pieces of society, but instead, UNRWA textbooks use imagery that literally wipes Israel off the map and incites violence. A 2018 GAO report on UNRWA textbooks that was made public in 2019 shocked Congress and began a flood of requests to end taxpayer funded aid to the organization.
Unfortunately, the textbooks UNRWA uses have not changed, and hard-earned American money is flowing to pay for them. How different would the situation in Israel be if Palestinian children were taught the value of peace and love for their neighbors? Just yesterday, a 32-year-old husband and father of two, Meir Tamari, was murdered by a Palestinian terrorist. The situation in Israel with the Palestinians gets worse every day - but it doesn't have to.
Given the rise in terror attacks, we are respectfully asking you to sign onto this bill to stop funding UNRWA and give Palestinian children a chance to learn something different. Please stand up against antisemitism by signing onto the UNRWA Accountability and Transparency Act now. Thank you for your time and consideration.
