Dear Recipient's Title and Name:
I am writing today to ask that you cosponsor the bipartisan “Universal Giving Pandemic Response Act (S. 4032),” recently introduced by Senators James Lankford (R-OK) and Chris Coons (D-DE).
The COVID-19 (“Coronavirus”) pandemic has greatly expanded the need for charitable organizations to provide additional services to our communities, and these organizations have responded. Especially now, America’s nonprofit charities are frontline responders providing food, shelter, medical services, and other critical services to those in need in their communities. At the same time, the economic downturn has dramatically reduced donor contributions and other sources of revenue on which nonprofit charities rely to survive.
Unfortunately, without immediate assistance from the federal government, America’s charitable nonprofit and the people we serve will be forces to cut services – or even close their doors - at a time when our efforts are most needed by the vulnerable populations in our communities.
On Monday, Senator James Lankford (R-OK) and Senator Chris Coons (D-DE) introduced the “Universal Giving Pandemic Response Act (S. 4032).” This legislation would greatly expand the current $300 above-the-line deduction for charitable giving made available by the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (“CARES”) Act which passed in March. Specifically, this legislation would make available—for tax years 2019 and 2020—an above-the-line deduction for charitable giving on federal income taxes valued at up to one-third of the standard deduction (around $4,000 for an individual filer and $8,000 for married joint filers).
This legislation is an important incentive for Americans to continue giving to charities and nonprofit organizations when their services are most needed by vulnerable communities in America. Please cosponsor the “Universal Giving Pandemic Response Act” today.
Sincerely,
