The federal Nonprofit Security Grant Program (NSGP), whose creation was spearheaded by OU Advocacy, was funded at $180 million in FY2021. In the coming months, Congress will decide the funding level for the NSGP program for FY2022. We are requesting that legislators increase the funding to $360 million for FY2022. In support of that effort, Representatives Pascrell (D-NJ) and Katko (R-NY) are leading a “Dear Colleague Letter” to urge appropriators to include that increase in the next Dept. of Homeland Security appropriations bill.
We are asking you to please - Take Action Today: Contact your U.S. Representative and ask them to sign the letter led by U.S. Reps. Bill Pascrell (D-N.J.) and John Katko (R-N.Y.) that will go to the Chairwoman Lucille Roybal-Allard (CA-40) and Ranking Member Chuck Fleischmann (TN-3) of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Homeland Security to fund the NSGP at $360 million.
Since its creation in 2005, the Orthodox Union and its coalition partners have led the effort to annually appropriate funds for the NSGP program. As a result of these efforts, Congress has appropriated $599 million for the program and awarded thousands of grants for at-risk nonprofit organizations such as day schools, synagogues and community centers in our community. The funding may be used to acquire and install necessary fencing and lighting, video surveillance and X-ray and metal detectors, and reinforced doors, locks, and windows. Such protective measures make our nonprofit organizations—and the populations they serve—safer and better able to withstand potential terrorist threats.
In the coming months, the Committee on Appropriations will finalize the funding level for the NSGP.Please fill out this captcha to submit form for
