The Cardinal and the Consul

The other day IPA staff joined with others in New York’s political, diplomatic and religious leadership to bid farewell to Israel’s Consul General in New York, Ambassador Aryeh Mekel. Among the dignitaries, which included Police Commissioner Ray Kelly, the consul of Sweden and others, was His Eminence, Edward Cardinal Egan of the New York Archdiocese.

Ambassador Mekel had the crowd laughing but the Cardinal stole the show with his humor. For us though, it was this graceful tidbit that really caught us. He promised the Ambassador that the Cardinal and his flock of 2.5 million faithful constantly keep Israel in their prayers.
