The President’s Joshua

The New York Times reports a poorly kept secret in Washington – President Obama will name Joshua Dubois as the director of the White House Council for Faith-Based and Neighborhood Initiatives.

Mr. Dubois is an excellent choice for this important post. He built wonderful relationships with leaders across America’s many diverse faith communities – first in Mr. Obama’s senate office and then for his presidential campaign. Joshua not only knows the “people”, but he also knows the key policies that concern the faith communities very well. Perhaps most significant, Joshua has President Obama’s trust and will be able to ensure that the Council will have appropriate impact upon the Obama Administration’s policy discussions.

The OU’s support of the faith-based initiative begun by President Bush is well known, and we remain encouraged that President Obama intends to continue the effort.
