Todays’ NY Sun has a must read op-ed on the fairness, equity, and need for Governor Spitzer’s proposed tuition tax deduction. The author is New York State Senator Kevin Parker, an African American Democrat, who proudly points out that he represents more Jews than any other non-Jewish legislator in the State of New York. The Senator pens a well written and compelling op-ed that should give those who have “knee jerk” opposition to any help to non public schools deep pause.

For African Americans, as well as for others, this issue of school choice is one of social justice. And for a Jewish community that has always taken the lead on that, it could be a way to rebuild the historic Black-Jewish alliance.
