OU Commends Bush Administration for Urging UN to Reject and Condemn Any Denial of the Holocaust

Today, the Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations of America (UOJCA) — the largest Orthodox Jewish umbrella organization in the United States — commended the Bush administration for proposing a U.N. resolution rejecting any denial of the Holocaust and urging member states to condemn such denial “without any reservation.”

The UOJCA believes that, in the wake of last month’s Holocaust denial conference hosted by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in Tehran, this resolution is part of an essential demonstration of clear international protest. Despite 2005’s UN General Assembly Resolution A/60/7 designating January 27 as an international day of Holocaust remembrance and urging UN member states to reject Holocaust denial and educate against it, Iran has repeatedly broken with the International community and has not received enough international chastisement. The current regime in Iran has repeatedly demonstrated its desire to preach anti-Semitism, hatred, Holocaust denial, and the destruction of Israel. The UOJCA calls on the community of nations to join with all people of good will and of many faiths to ratify this resolution in memory to the millions of martyrs of the Holocaust.
